Our Explore, Free-to-Grow, Standard Carrier and Half Buckle as well as the Tula Lite Carrier have been acknowledged by The International Hip Dysplasia Institute (IHDI) as "hip-healthy" products. The IHDI recognizes that Baby Tula has developed products that consider the importance of healthy hip development during infancy. This is especially important during the early stages of hip development in the first few months after birth.

The weight range for the Explore Carrier is 3.2 - 20.4 kg / 7 - 45 lb.

The Explore Baby Carrier offers three positions to carry baby including front carry facing out, front carry facing in, and back carry (facing in). Each position provides a natural, ergonomic position that promotes healthy hip and spine development for baby. The Explore Baby Carrier is our only carrier that offers an ergonomic facing out position.

  • For newborns up to ~ 3 months the narrow setting should be used at a minimum weight of 3,2 kg
  • For babies 3 - 9 months of age the middle setting should be used
  • For taller babies, 9 months and older the widest setting is suitable.

Please note that these recommendations are guidelines and may vary depending on the height and weight of the individual baby.

Correct positioning: The width of the panel should be determined by the individual baby's comfort and leg span. When choosing which seat width to use with your baby, choose the width that supports their legs in an "M" shaped, spread squat position with their legs supported to the crease of the knee. If the edge of the panel rests on the baby's calves, rather than under the bend in their knees, then the width you have chosen is too wide. Always ensure proper placement of baby in the carrier including leg placement.

m-position_large.jpg

The Explore Baby Carrier’s easy-to-adjust body panel allows you to change the height and width of the carrier to be suitable for carrying a newborn at 3,2 kg.
The Explore Baby Carrier has been tested and approved for babies of at least 3,2 kg. We therefore do not recommend using the Tula Explore Baby Carrier below this weight limit.
An infant insert is not needed for the Explore Baby Carrier. The front carry facing out position is not intended for use with a newborn baby or a child with no head or neck control.

The neck support pillow flipped down and inside the panel of the Explore Baby Carrier provides additional support for newborns with little to no head or neck control. Once your baby begins to show signs of head and neck control, you may move the pillow to the outside of the carrier.

When determining what height position to place the neck support pillow in, ensure that your baby is visible and their ear is clearing the top of the panel. The neck support pillow can provide additional support for a taller child or a sleeping child in the front carry facing in or in the back carry. The neck support pillow should not be used in the tall position when your child is facing out.

The Tula Explore Baby Carrier allows you to front carry your baby in the facing out position when your baby is between 6,4 - 10 kg, has full head and neck control, and is tall enough to have their face fully clear the top of the body panel while being seated in the carrier.

To avoid over-stimulation we recommend using the facing out position in peaceful and quiet surroundings. It is important to watch your baby’s cues when using the facing out position. Your child should not sleep in this position. If your child falls asleep in the facing out position, be sure to position them back to facing in or take them out of the carrier. Check out our page on what to consider when facing out with the Tula Explore Carrier

Be sure that the seat width (snap buttons) is always at the widest setting when using the facing out position and the buttons are closed in the narrow (lower) position. The neck support pillow should be folded down on the outside of the carrier to ensure an unobstructed view for baby.

Aside from ensuring your Explore Baby Carrier is in the proper settings for the front carry facing out position, it’s important to watch your baby for cues that they are comfortable and happy in the facing out position. Watch your baby for signs of over-stimulation or tiredness. If your baby falls asleep, be sure to turn them back into the facing in position. For your comfort and baby’s, you may want to carry baby in the facing out position for short periods of time. Read more on what to consider when facing out with the Explore Baby Carrier.

Yes, we have responsibly designed a deep seated facing out carry position that supports a baby’s natural curved spine and spread squat position. Read more on what to consider when facing out with the Explore Baby Carrier.

At the age of about 6 months children naturally develop a natural interest for their surroundings. We worked to responsibly design an ergonomic carrier that is easy to use and supports the facing out position for shorter periods of time and peaceful surroundings which our community has long been asking us to create.

The hood is not intended to be used when baby is facing out in the Tula Explore Carrier.

We recommend waiting to back carry your child until they have strong and consistent head, neck, and torso control, and can push themselves independently into, and remain in, a seated position consistently. The back carry position can be used in the middle or wide seat width setting and with the neck support pillow up or down relative to your child’s size.

No, please do not use the back carry position for facing out.

  • Depending on the snap setting, the seat panel width is adjustable from 20,5 - 37 cm
  • With the neck pillow down, the height of the panel is 36,6 cm
  • The hip belt measures 13 cm and 69 cm wide. Additional webbing extends approximately 76 cm (waistband total of ~ 145 cm long)
  • Weight of the carrier: 0,8 kg

A wonderful benefit of all Tula Carriers is the ability to nurse baby while they are being carried. To do this, you can loosen your arm straps and lower the waistband, without unbuckling any buckles, and position baby to your chest. You will want to reposition baby once they are done feeding or if they fall asleep. For more tips on breastfeeding in your baby carrier, read our blog articles:

Tula Linen is available in three carrier styles, the Free-To-Grow baby carrier, the Explore baby carrier and the Toddler Carrier.

There is not a plan to expand the Linen collection beyond our ExploreFree-to-Grow and Toddler Carriers at this time. However, we are always exploring new and exciting options, so please stay tuned for updates.

Linen is a strong, lightweight, breathable fabric made from the flax plant.

They are made with a 52% linen and 48% cotton blend. Combining linen with cotton allows the material used for the Tula Linen collection to have a much softer hand feel right out of the box.

Tula carriers traditionally have been offered in two textile (fabric) options: 100% cotton, fully printed twill or canvas; and our artisan-designed woven Signature collection made of various types of fibers.

The Tula Linen collection is made with a blend of linen and cotton (52% linen/48% cotton). The material is made from threads in two colors that are woven into a herringbone pattern. The material has an overall impression of a solid color.

The Tula Linen collection will still feature the support features and comfortable padding that our baby carriers are known for. The biggest difference will be in the aesthetic and feel of the fabric.

Linen is a naturally breathable fabric made from the flax plant. It can also provide somewhat moisture wicking properties. The material is incredibly durable and supportive while still molding nicely around you and baby. Linen is hypoallergenic.

Linen is an all-natural material that is low water and low nearly zero waste crop, making it as earth friendly as it is beautifully flattering. Linen is also biodegradable.

While personal preference will be the main determining factor for this question, the natural properties of linen will add to the breathability of the Tula Linen collection. Our community also enjoys our Tula Coast carriers.

Currently, there is not a plan to expand our Tula Linen collection into printed designs. If you love our prints, you can count on many new options for our core and Signature collections in all sizes.

Yes, all carriers in the Tula Linen collection come with a hood in the same color as the carrier.

The Tula Linen collection is not considered part of our Signature collection nor is it created by artisan weavers. As a machine woven material, we are able to have specific colors readily available in the collection, and we will have limited edition colors to allow for variety and seasonal colors.

Both the Free-to-Grow baby carrier  and the Explore baby carrier, which are part of the Linen collection, are designed to fit most newborns starting at 3,2 kg. without the use of an infant insert.

Our Tula Linen Collection is available in two carrier styles, the Free-to-Grow Baby Carrier, and the Explore Baby Carrier.

If you would like a carrier with the option to forward face, we'd recommend the Tula Explore Baby Carrier that allows you to face in, face out, and back carry. The Free-to-Grow Baby Carrier is not designed to offer the forward facing carrying position.

An infant insert is not needed or compatible with either Tula Linen Collection. Both the Tula Free-to-Grow Carrier, and the Tula Explore Carrier are baby carriers designed to fit most newborns starting at 3,2 kg. without the use of an insert.

Our Explore Carrier, Free-to-Grow Carrier, Standard Carrier, Lite Carrier and Half Buckle have been acknowledged by The International Hip Dysplasia Institute (IHDI) as "hip-healthy" products.

Both the Free-to-Grow baby carrier and the Explore baby carrier, which are part of the Hemp collection, are designed to fit most newborns starting at 3.2 kg/7 lbs without the use of an infant insert.

Hemp is a high-yielding crop in the cannabis family and its fibers are used to make a variety of products, including rope, textiles, shoes, food, paper, bioplastics, insulation, and biofuel. You’ll also find hemp seeds and hemp oil used in home products and for health. Tula Hemp is a ultra soft blend made from 55% Hemp/45% Organic Cotton.

The Tula Hemp collection is not considered part of our Signature line of carriers. Tula Hemp is a machine-woven material made of 55% Hemp/45% Organic cotton. One major distinction is that any pattern or design in the Hemp collection is printed onto the fabric, not woven into it like the Signature collection carriers.

If you are interested in a printed Hemp carrier, then you may like Hemp Agate! We will introduce selected printed designs to the Hemp collection in the future. Watch for seasonal releases throughout the year.

We love to provide a variety of options that fit your style. The Hemp carrier collection will be no exception. We expect to continue to introduce new colors to our Tula Hemp collection seasonally. Sign up here to receive email notifications for new releases.

Hemp and Linen fabrics have many of the same positive qualities - such as being temperature regulating, lower environmental impact compared to conventional cotton, and antimicrobial properties. However, choosing a baby carrier fabric is a lot like choosing a pair of jeans - some just fit better for different people. In particular, while both fabrics are strong and soften over time, Tula Hemp has a softer handfeel right out of the box and the appearance of the colors is more saturated, whereas Linen is has a more subdued color and more intricate herringbone woven texture. We always say choose a carrier you'll love wearing because that's part of the joy of babywearing.

Hemp is an extremely durable, all-natural material. Hemp is a high-yielding crop that requires very little water, and can actually improve the health of the soil. So, the growing and harvesting of Hemp is where we see a positive environmental impact. Like so many industries, textile product has a lot of room for improvement! But, after looking at the numbers...Tula Hemp is one step close to a sustainable carrier.

The Hemp collection is currently available in our Explore baby carrier and Free-To-Grow baby carrier styles.

No Infant insert is needed for our Explore or Free-To-Grow carriers. They are newborn ready, allowing you to begin using at 3.2-20.4kg/7 - 45 lbs.

Yes. All of our Baby Tula carriers come with a coordinating sleep/sun hood, including the Hemp collection.

We recommend that you machine wash cold. Do not bleach. Line dry. Do not iron. Do not dry clean. Do not use detergents with bleach, perfumes, dyes, chlorine, or optical brightener.

After we released our Linen collection, many of our customers loved the natural qualities and beauty that the material had. We began looking at other natural fabrics to see what else would work well for a line of baby carrier. Our special hemp blend is: -soft on baby’s skin -supportive for your comfort -temperature regulating to keep you cool in summer and warm in winter - designed neutral and earthy colorways and prints -softens with use

Our ExploreFree-to-GrowStandardHalf BuckleRing Sling as well as the Tula Lite Carrier have been acknowledged by The International Hip Dysplasia Institute (IHDI) as "hip-healthy" products.

The IHDI recognizes that Baby Tula has developed products that consider the importance of healthy hip development during infancy. This is especially important during the early stages of hip development in the first few months after birth.

The Tula Ring Sling has a recommended weight range of 3,6 – 15,9 kg.

Wearing your newborn legs in or legs out is a matter of comfort for your newborn. Some newborns prefer to be worn with their legs out and that is fine. If your newborn is more comfortable being worn with his/her legs in, just make sure that baby's weight is resting on his or her bottom, not their feet or legs.

The best position for a newborn carry is to be worn high and snug on your chest. Always make sure she is visible and kissable, and keep an eye on her airway to ensure that it is clear. Make sure her chin is at least two adult fingers above her chest. We recommend turning her head to one side so that she can rest her cheek on your chest. For additional support, you can twist your tail to create a long "cushioned" rail, bring the twisted tail up against your baby and flip the top edge over the twisted tail to create a cushioned top edge to support baby's head.

You can wear a baby in a Signature Ring Sling beginning at around 3,6 kg. You want to remember the ABCs - airway (clear, chin off of chest), body positioning (neck and trunk control, knees higher than bottom, and a seated M-position), and comfort (get help if this isn't there!). Small babies in particular need to have extra attention paid to their airway as well as their positioning.

Your baby should be close enough to kiss. It sounds like you're not getting it tight enough. Make sure the shoulder of the sling is also cupping your shoulder and that the sling is spread widely across your back. To tighten more easily, try tightening from under your arm and across baby's back by bringing the slack in the sling to the rings before pulling it through, and always maintain a secure M-position for baby, who will be seated in the hammock of the carrier. I would recommend starting with your sling pre-adjusted so you don't have make as many changes once baby is in the Signature Ring Sling!

Physiologically, babies develop so that their placement looks different at different ages and stages. Generally, we would recommend wearing your baby in a deep squat with knees above bottom, and with baby's weight resting in the hammock of the sling. Keep in mind that red lines on baby's legs don't always mean that baby is uncomfortable - they can be similar to the marks left on your face by your pillow. That said, pay close attention to ensuring that baby has adequate circulation, an open airway, and is always visible and kissable.

We would recommend wearing the shoulder of the ring sling capping your shoulder so that it comes down over the top of your arm, if possible. It helps to spread the sling widely across your back to help distribute the weight as well. And keep your sling snug, as this will help support your baby better. Finally, make sure baby is nice and snug with a good supported seat in the hammock of the Signature Ring Sling.

It is fine to leave your Signature Ring Sling threaded between uses as long as you are actively using it on a regular basis.

The Tula Preschool Carrier is for children from 15,9 - 31,8 kg and measures approximately 51 cm tall and 50,5 cm wide at the base.

Please note that the age recommendations are guidelines and may vary depending on the height and weight of the individual child.

The Hip Dysplasia Institute only issues certificates for products used with babies under 6 months which is why it is not possible to receive a certification for the Toddler Carrier.

No, the Toddler Carrier is not designed to carry your baby facing forward. Forward facing is only possible with our Explore Carrier.

If you would like a carrier with the option to forward face, we'd recommend our Explore Tula Baby Carrier that allows you to face in, face out and back carry. Although the ideal age span for forward facing is between 6 and 10 months due to the height and weight of the child and the comfort for the child and the person carrying.

We do not currently have an instructional video. You can visit our Product Instructions page for a downloadable version of the instruction manual for step by step visual instructions.

The Hip Dysplasia Institute only issues certificates for products used with babies under 6 months which is why it is not possible to receive a certification for the Preschool Carrier.

The Preschool Carrier is designed to accommodate children weighing between 15,9 - 31,8 kg. The child should be wearing and fitting properly, for length, in size 104 (EU) in order to use this carrier.

We recommend that a child be wearing and fitting into size EU 104 cm before using the Preschool Carrier

With a taller child that has head, neck, and torso control, waistband placement is more subjective to the caregiver’s comfort and person preference. The carrier waistband should be at a height that allows your child to be snug and supported against on your body, with minimal pressure on your body and that avoids obstruction of your ability to see over your child’s head in a front carry. The waistband will be lower and closer to your hips as opposed to the height you might place it when carrying a small infant or newborn.

No, the Preschool Carrier should not be used in a forward facing. This carrier supports front inward and back carry positions.

If you would like a carrier with the option to forward face, we'd recommend our Explore Baby Carrier that allows you to face in, face out and back carry. However the ideal age range to carry your child in the forward facing position in the Explore Carrier is 6 months - 1 year.

  • The Preschool Carrier panel measures 51 x 50,5 cm
  • The Preschool Carrier padded shoulder straps measure 45,7 cm when not expanded and 51,8 cm when expanded
  • The webbing attached to the strap is an additional 73,7 long
  • The hip belt measures 14 cm tall and 84 cm wide
  • Additional webbing extends approximately 76 cm (waistband total of ~ 155 cm  long)
  • Weight of the carrier: 0,9 kg

The look and feel of the Preschool Carrier is very similar to our Toddler Carrier however the panel is larger and strategically reinforced for a larger child. These constructional changes, while not noticeable, provide additional strength and durability to support your child as they grow. The hood of the Preschool Carrier is also larger to accommodate a larger child.

A child should fit into size EU 104 for the Preschool Carrier and can weigh up to 31,8 kg, versus for the Toddler Carrier, the child should fit into EU size 92 - 98 and can weigh up to 27 kg.

The addition of seat extenders would only provide addition leg support for your child while in the Toddler Carrier. But, the Preschool Carrier would provide a taller panel (additional height), reinforced construction, and a wider weight range.

No, the Tula Infant Insert is only designed to be used to carry newborns and small infants in a Tula Standard Carrier.

We are always working to bring you new and exciting products and hope to bring you some more canvas options soon. To stay informed on any upcoming product releases, follow us on Instagram.

Due to the reinforced structure and layering of the Preschool Carrier, we are not currently offering Coast Mesh options in this carrier collection.

Yes, all Preschool Carriers also come with a coordinating, detachable hood.

Our Preschool Carriers are made from soft and breathable 100% cotton fabric that is Oeko Tex 100 certified.

The waistband and adjustable panel of the Tula Half Buckle Carrier function just like our Free-to-Grow Carrier and Explore Carrier, but it has distinct shoulder tie straps instead of buckle shoulder straps. These straps are crossable and allows for the additional hip carry position. Our Half Buckle Carrier is inspired by Asian style carriers like the Meh Dai carrier style and gives you just another comfortable carrier option to explore and personalize your parenting journey.

The Tula Half Buckle Carrier is a hybrid carrier that offers the comfort of a buckle waist and the customisable snug support of crossable tie straps. In addition to the front carry facing in and the back carry positions the Half Buckle Carrier also offers a hip carry position.

Our Half Buckle, Free-to-Grow, Explore, Standard Carrier and  as well as the Tula Lite Carrier have been acknowledged by The International Hip Dysplasia Institute (IHDI) as "hip-healthy" products.

The IHDI recognizes that Baby Tula has developed products that consider the importance of healthy hip development during infancy. This is especially important during the early stages of hip development in the first few months after birth.

The Half Buckle Carrier offers a front facing-in, a back carry and a hip carry position.

The Half Buckle Carrier's easy-to-adjust body panel allows you to change the height and width of the carrier to be suitable for carrying a newborn at 3,2 kg.

The Tula Half Buckle Carrier has been tested and approved for babies of at least 3,2 kg. We therefore do not recommend using the  Half Buckle Carrier below this weight limit.

No, the Tula Half Buckle Carrier does not require an infant insert for carrying your newborn. Only our Standard Carrier requires an infant insert when your baby is below 7 kg.

No, the Half Buckle Carrier is not designed to carry your baby facing forward. Forward facing is only possible with our Explore Carrier.

We recommend waiting to back carry your child until they have strong and consistent head, neck, and torso control, and can push themselves independently into, and remain in, a seated position consistently. The back carry position can be used in the middle or wide seat width setting and with the neck support pillow up or down relative to your child’s size.

Depending on the snap setting, the seat panel width is adjustable from 20,5 cm – 37 cm. The maximum height of the panel is 44,7 cm. The hip belt measures 13 cm tall and 69 cm wide. Additional webbing extends approximately 76 cm (waistband total of ~ 145 cm long). Weight of the carrier: 0,8 kg. To compare the measurements of all our carriers, please click here for our overview chart.

For more tips on breastfeeding in your baby carrier, read our blog.

Tula Baby Blankets are made from natural fibers and should be washed with care. Wash in cold water, on a delicate cycle. Tumble dry on low heat separate from other articles of clothing that could potentially snag or tear the delicate fabric of the blanket. Only use non-chlorine bleach as needed and avoid ironing. It is natural for this fabric to experience some shrinkage upon washing.
