Mom Photographer: Capturing Real Life

Motherhood and photography are two passions that often come together in beautiful and unexpected ways.

For Agnes, they’ve become inseparable.

As a mom photographer, she doesn’t just take photos — she captures the authentic, unposed moments that make family life so special. From newborn photos to family beach photos, her work is all about preserving the fleeting moments that tell a story.

Agnes lives in Poland, where Baby Tula’s roots are planted, and we were thrilled to learn more about her journey. We sat down with her to hear how she juggles motherhood with her career, why she embraces an unposed style, and her top tips for families looking to capture their memories through photography, whether with a camera or mobile photography.

Turning Passion into the Dream Job

Photography has always been a passion for Agnes, but it wasn’t until she became a mother that her love for capturing life’s moments truly blossomed.

“I’ve always seen the world differently, and people often told me I should pursue photography seriously,” she shares.

Five years ago, she finally took the plunge and enrolled in a photography course. Since then, she hasn’t looked back. “It was such a liberating feeling to finally trust in my own abilities,” she says.

Motherhood, however, was the turning point. “When I became a mother of four, I realized I couldn’t afford to miss a single moment of my children’s lives,” Agnes explains.

It was after the birth of her third child that she began documenting everything from newborn photos to everyday family moments. That ultimately turned her passion into a fulfilling career in family photography.

Mastering the Balance: Parenthood & Photography

For this mom being a family photographer is all about finding the perfect balance between her family and her passion for photography. The flexibility of her job is a huge advantage, allowing her to manage her schedule around her children’s needs.

“Having a flexible schedule means I can work around my family life, and my husband’s help is invaluable — he often stays with the little ones when I’m shooting,” Agnes explains.

However, it’s not always easy. Weekend shoots can be tricky, as Agnes strives to keep weekends free for her kids, who spend weekdays at school and daycare. “Every time I work on weekends, I know I’m sacrificing some family time,” she reflects.

The rewards, though, make it all worthwhile.

Agnes’ kids take immense pride in her work, often excitedly pointing out her photography on banners around their neighborhood. “They love getting involved with my social media, helping with posts and stories. I'm sure that when they grow up, they will appreciate their childhood photos even more because of it,” she says. For Agnes, balancing motherhood and photography isn’t just about managing time — it’s about sharing her passion with her family.

The Magic of Unposed Family Photography

Agnes’ journey into family photography hasn’t been without its challenges. Early on, she faced criticism for her unposed style.

“I was told my photos weren’t ‘perfect’— they needed more blurred backgrounds, more posed models,” she recalls.

Despite this feedback, Agnes stayed true to her vision.

Encouraged by a fellow photographer who told her that her work was a perfect example of the unposed style, “I realized I should focus on exploring the real emotions and connections that happen naturally within a family, rather than trying to fit into traditional photography canons,” she explains.

Her unique perspective as a mother led her to approach family photography with tenderness and authenticity. “I try to photograph things from a mother’s point of view —the gentle way she holds her newborn, the joy on a sibling’s face when they meet their baby brother or sister,” Agnes says. For her, it’s not about perfect shots — it’s about capturing the emotional moments that define family life.

Phone Photography Tips for Parents

Agnes’ Advice: “Newborns grow so fast — don’t wait! Capture those precious moments, from tiny toes to soft skin, before they’re gone tomorrow.”

For parents balancing daily life and photography, babywearing can be a lifesaver. A good baby carrier keeps your newborn close while giving you the freedom to snap those fleeting, magical moments.

So, is mobile photography a thing? Definitely!

Agnes shares her top phone photography tips to help you capture those special moments with your little ones:

  • Lighting is Key: Look for natural light. On rainy days, photograph near windows. In harsh sunlight, find shade for softer light.
  • Capture Natural Moments: Don’t ask kids to pose — photograph them when they’re not aware, letting them be themselves.
  • Take Plenty of Newborn Photos: Newborns change every day. Capture those tiny toes and delicate details before they grow too quickly.
  • Mealtime Magic: Children at the table make great photo subjects — whether they’re sitting nicely or having fun with their food, these moments are filled with emotion.
  • Say No to the Flash: Flash can be too harsh for little ones. Stick to natural light to keep the photos soft and organic.
  • Basic Editing Is All You Need: Crop, adjust exposure (lighten dark photos, darken overexposed ones), and play with color temperature (warmer or cooler tones). Use easy-to-access apps like Lightroom for simple edits.
  • Keep It Natural: Avoid over-editing your photos. Keep them as natural as possible to preserve the beauty of those unposed moments — too much retouching can make your photos look artificial.
  • Master Composition: Learn to spot interesting compositions — like leading lines, reflections in mirrors, or light and shadow contrasts. See your home from a fresh perspective for unique photo opportunities.

Use your phone to its full potential, and remember, you won’t regret taking too many photos, only the ones you missed.

Embracing Life’s Simple Moments

For Agnes, motherhood is the ultimate inspiration.

“I want to remember the little things — the mug I drank my coffee from when my kids were small, the exhaustion on my face after sleepless nights,” she reflects.

Her photography, much like her life, is honest, unfiltered, capturing the beauty of these fleeting moments.

Whether it’s newborn photos or family Christmas photos, Agnes focuses on the truth of everyday life — these authentic, unposed moments are the memories families will cherish forever.

Agnes believes in the magic of seeing the world through a child’s eyes. “When you start to see things the way children do, your photography will be full of color and life,” she says. From capturing family beach photos to documenting the chaos of a simple Tuesday morning, she proves that blending passion with parenthood creates something truly beautiful.
